How the username generator works
Most username ideas die the moment you try them: the platform says the name is taken. This nickname generator works the other way round. It builds names from your seed word, then asks each platform whether the name is free before you get attached to it.
- Seed. Type your first name, a nickname, a hobby or any word you like. Leave it empty and you get random ideas.
- Style. Pick a mood: aesthetic, cute, cool, funny or short. The style changes the word lists and the way parts are joined, not just the spelling.
- Check. Every idea is sent to the platforms that give a straight answer. A green dot means that platform itself said the name is free at that moment.
Nothing is reserved for you. A free name can be claimed by someone else a minute later, so if you love one, go and register it straight away.
What makes a good username
A good handle is one you can say out loud, spell for a friend without repeating it, and still like in three years. A few habits help:
- Keep it short. Under 15 characters fits almost everywhere, including games with tight limits.
- Avoid random digits. maya2011x looks like the name was taken, and the year gives away your age. Try a second word instead: mayamoss, maya.draws.
- One separator at most. Dots and underscores are allowed on Instagram and TikTok but not on Xbox or Telegram in the same way. Plain letters travel best.
- Stay safe. Don't put your surname, age, school, city or birthday in a handle. A first name plus a word you like is plenty.
Where names are checked, and where they are not
We only show a verdict when a platform answers a public request honestly. Today that means Roblox (including its name filter), Minecraft Java, YouTube handles, Telegram, GitHub, X and Kick, plus Steam custom URLs. TikTok is checked too, but TikTok sometimes blocks the request.
Instagram, Discord, Xbox, Twitch and Reddit are not checked. They either require you to be logged in or refuse automated requests. On those rows you'll see a button that opens the platform so you can try the name yourself.

Getting the same name on every platform
Having one handle everywhere makes you easy to find. The trick is to fit the strictest rules first. Xbox gamertags cannot contain dots or underscores, Telegram needs at least 5 characters, and Minecraft stops at 16. A name of 5 to 12 plain letters passes nearly all of them.

Is the username generator free?
Yes. There is no sign-up and no limit on ideas. Checks are rate-limited only to stop abuse; if you see a "wait a minute" message, you've run a lot of checks in a row.
Do you save the names I type?
No. The word you type is sent to the platforms only to check it, and we don't keep a list of what people search for.
Can I make a username from my name?
Yes. Type your first name as the seed and pick a style. You'll get versions that add a word, shorten the name or blend it with something you like. Leave your surname out.
What's the difference between a username and a nickname?
A username (or handle) is unique and is used in your profile link. A nickname or display name is what people see next to your posts, and on most platforms many people can share it.
