Roblox is stricter than most platforms, and many "Roblox username ideas" lists you'll find break at least one of these rules. Every name our Roblox username generator suggests is built to pass them before it's even checked.

No spaces, no dots, no dashes, no emoji and no accented letters. Capital letters are allowed and show on your profile, but SkyFox and skyfox count as the same name, so you can't take one if the other exists.

What "Available" means on this page

Our Roblox username checker asks Roblox itself, using the same check the sign-up form runs. That gives three possible answers, not two:

• Available — nobody has the name and Roblox would accept it.
• Taken — an account already uses it. Roblox doesn't release names from old accounts on request, so waiting rarely helps.
• Blocked by Roblox filter — nobody owns it, but Roblox won't allow it. The filter catches rude words, including ones hidden inside longer words, and anything that looks like personal information.

That last case is why untaken Roblox usernames are harder to find than they look: a name can be free and still unusable. If a name comes back filtered, the generator's next suggestions avoid the same pattern.

Username or display name: which one to change

Roblox gives you two names. The username is unique, appears in your profile link and costs 1,000 Robux to change. The display name is what other players see above your avatar in most experiences. It doesn't have to be unique and you can change it for free, once every 7 days.

So if you only want a new look, change the display name first. Spend Robux on a new username only when you're sure you'll keep it, because going back to an old username also costs Robux. To change either one, open Settings, then Account Info, and press the pencil icon next to the name.

Tips for a Roblox name you'll keep

1. Two short words beat one long one. MossTiger is easier to remember than TigerGamerProXD.
2. Use the underscore for a reason. One underscore between two words (Pixel_Bun) reads well. Don't use it just to squeeze past a taken name.
3. Skip the year and your age. A name like Liam2014 tells strangers how old you are. Keep your surname, school and town out of it too.
4. Think about your future self. A joke name at 10 can feel awkward at 15, and changing it costs Robux.
